What you Should Know About Autism Awareness Month
To highlight the growing need for concern and awareness about autism, the Autism Society of America has been celebrating National Autism Awareness Month since the 1970s. The observance provides an opportunity for the ASA, its State chapters, and others in the autism community to educate the public about this disorder. World Autism Awareness Day shines a bright light on autism as a growing global health crisis. WAAD activities help to increase and develop world knowledge of the autism epidemic and impart information regarding the importance of early diagnosis and early intervention. The Autism Speaks Organization will celebrate with a variety of events at the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange, Yoko Ono Lennon at the U.N. and an online Walk With Wubbzy.

Autism
Autism is a brain development disorder that impairs social interaction and communication and causes restricted and repetitive behavior, all starting before a child is three years old. This set of signs distinguishes autism from milder autism spectrum disorders (ASD) such as Asperger syndrome.
Leukemia
Leukemia is a cancer of the blood or bone marrow and is characterized by an abnormal proliferation of blood cells, typically white blood cells (leukocytes). Leukemia is a broad term covering a wide spectrum of diseases as it is part of the even broader group of diseases called hematological neoplasms.
